Reel and Artist Statement

As an artist, I consider myself an amateur and I think I always will. Even if it seems to others that I have mastered a skill, I know in my childlike heart that there is still so much that I don't know. This outlook on life and cinematography is heavily influenced by filmmakers like Marc Singer and Conrad Hall, ASC. Both of these filmmakers go into their films knowing that their knowledge is not the end all be all and delight in the happy accidents. I try not to put on airs about being a genius and technically solid photographer; I'm not. But do I know enough technique to stumble upon the happy accident? Yes I do. Do I have the drive and sense to figure it out if I don't know the answer? Yes I do. Will I try things that don't make by the book sense? Yes I will. Because I read the book. And then I threw it out.
